Nordic Iron Ore will produce a highgrade iron ore concentrate for green steelmaking

Nordic Iron Ore’s main ambition is to resume mining operations at Blötberget and Håksberg and expand to the intermediate Väsman field. The goal is to build an ultra-modern, eco-friendly mine powered by electricity as far as possible.

Blötberget is the first deposit that Nordic Iron Ore will process and is home to ore for at least 10 to 12 years of mining. By beginning at Blötberget, where the company already has all of the necessary permits in place, the company will receive revenue from sales which can be invested in the continued expansion.

The green steel industry

Nordic Iron Ore will produce an iron ore concentrate with an average iron content of close to 69 per cent. The fact that the concentrate is also of very high-quality means that it is well suited for the green steelmaking. Since mining occurs underground, no lasting open-cast damage is done to the landscape. The mine’s geographical location means that the transports to European steel mills will be relatively short and thus more environmentally friendly.

In total, Nordic Iron Ore controls measured and indicated mineral resources of 87.4 million tonnes with an iron content of 36.2–41.7 per cent, and inferred mineral resources of 109.3 million tonnes with an iron content of 36–38.4 per cent according to the JORC standard. Based on the completed feasibility studies, 34 million tonnes of these assets in Blötberget have been able to be classified as mineable reserves.
