Drilling Program in Blötberget

Smart Exploration Research Center and Nordic Iron Ore AB teamed up for Targeting Promising Seismic Features Through Deep Drilling Program

Facilitated by Epiroc, a leader in the exploration drilling and manufacturing, we are excited to announce that Smart Exploration Research Center and Nordic Iron Ore AB have teamed up for targeting promising seismic features through a deep drilling program aimed at exploring intriguing reflection seismic features identified in the Blötberget exploration permits and mining concession.

We are also drilling in the old mine tailings – what was once left behind could now be a valuable resource!

During previous mining operations in Blötberget, beneficiation sand was deposited here. At the time, some iron ore and other minerals were lost in the process – today, we know they can be highly valuable.

Using sonic drilling, a method where vibrations and rotation push a drill pipe into the ground, we collect samples from every meter, from the surface down to the bottom, approximately 20 meters deep. The purpose is to analyze the levels of iron, phosphorus, and rare earth elements. With modern technology and new knowledge, what was once considered unusable could become a valuable raw material source.
