Iron ore mining has long been a cornerstone of Ludvika’s history, and now it stands on the verge of a revival. In Blötberget, a deep drilling programme is underway, seeking to explore and add mineral resources to the already known deposits.
“Our ultimate goal is to produce ultra-high-grade iron ore concentrate. Previous tests show that Blötberget has the potential to deliver products with iron content and purity among the highest in the world,” explains Ronne Hamerslag, CEO of Nordic Iron Ore.
On Wednesday, he accompanied County Governor Helena Höij, Municipal Director Maria Skoglund, Head of Business Development Erik Odens, and Municipal Councillors Leif Pettersson and HåGe Persson to the drilling site in Blötberget.
As the steel industry transitions to greener practices, the demand for high-grade iron ore products is expected to rise.
“Cleaner steel production and reduced carbon emissions require the kind of pure iron ore products we can provide,” Hamerslag notes.
The new deep drilling programme aims to uncover resources that will bolster the mine’s long-term viability, attracting the investment required to launch construction of the new mining site.
“At full capacity, around 300 people are expected to work there, with a planned headquarters and entrance from the Björnmossen industrial area.”
